Governing Specification: GS1 Digital Link Standard 1.2 / ISO/IEC 18004

Data Format & Required Fields

Allowed Character SetValid GS1 Digital Link HTTP/HTTPS URI.
Payload Length Rule Between 15 and 500 characters

Industry Guidance & Practical Applications

  • Sunrise 2027 transition from 1D UPC to 2D at point-of-sale
  • Patient package inserts linking to live drug recall/verification status
Packaging & Scanning Notes: Part of GS1 Sunrise 2027 initiative replacing linear barcodes with interactive 2D codes.

Symbol Constraints & Label Guidelines

  • Requires domain ownership and URL resolver gateway infrastructure for production scanning.
